A legend Jogs On!!!

I was lucky enough to catch up with FML Community Legend Rik Stewart last night.

Rik has decided to step away from FML for a while, having joined the game at the same time as Rik nearly 3 years ago I know how much Rik loves FML and this is a decision he would not have taken lightly.

I recall the day I was asked to become a Mod by Richard Tebbutt and my first reaction was only if you are asking Rik as well. This was not me being a twat this was me knowing how important Riks role was in the Pre Release Beta GW we were in together Physco GW6

The banter that was created in this GW was like nothing I have ever seen since and possibly will again, I dont know what created it but it was a special GW and one I had the most fun on.

Perhaps it was just a case of a GW full of people who were up for the crack I dont know maybe it is the game has changed so much ?

Im sure given more time in his life Rik would continue playing FML, but people move on however Rik has done so much for FML I find it really sad that he is moving on.

With FM2011 around the corner Im sure what gaming time Rik does have he will spend on that as opposed to FML, however FM is a great game it does not have the community aspect that FML does.

If FML had a fraction of the depth involved with FM then Im sure it would keep people involved for longer, however FML is not FM and there is a big difference between both games.

I decided to play FM2011 Demo for a few hours recently, and wow what a game!

This game has gone from strength to strength with every addition it just takes on more depth but can also appeal to those who want to be less involved ie in the training side of things etc. The game is so diverse, I love the interaction with the players albeit I have annoyyed most of mine in the few hours that I spent playing.

Universally Challenged

A few months ago I was sent an email from FML Legend Rik Stewart.

The email was sent to few Moderators along with Rob Aka Bertie from Si.

The contents of this was to try and get a cross Gameworld quiz up and running.

This was warmly recieved from the people who had received the email, and about 50 emails followed which tried to sort this out and get the ball rolling.

It never really got off the ground due to various issues with people being away and like then it was how do we get all the gameworlds involved.

As you are probably aware one of the first things that we have done as Community Support Moderators is to get this up and running.

So we set about arranging this on a cross gameworld basis, the ideal sceniro would be to have the qualifying rounds on at the same time in every gameworld, however logistically this is just not possible.

Therefore Guido has created a set of 80 questions for each round to be sent to the gameworlds from which they will select 30 questions at random to run in the quiz.

The winners go forth to Miller and will take part in the final.

The 3 people from the winner gameworld will have their subscription extended by 3 months.

We are now underway with the qualifiying process and things are coming along well.

The quizs are being met with great excitement and its adding an extra dimension to the game.

The Next step!!!

Something New

The last few weeks have been a bit busy for me on FML.

This is not due to my activities on Nunez but more to do with the fact that I was recently appointed a new role in FML.

As you are all aware we currently have the Support Mods who step in and deal with a lot of the issues involved with Moderating FML, well the powers that be at Si Towers have decided to appoint a couple of additional Support Mods which are to be known as Community Support Mods.

I guess you can see where this is leading ?

I have been appointed as s Community Support Moderator, along with Quizmaster Guido.

So What’s the Cracker Jack with a CSM ?

The role of CSM is to be there to assist any Mod teams that need assistance with any Community Events.

This is an advisory role more than just a case of us logging in to do the events on their behalf.

The current Mod team do a terrific job, and it can take a lot of time and effort constantly coming up with new events and comps etc to run in a Gameworld.

There are currently lots of different events in various Gameworlds being run the idea is that as CSM’s we will create a database of these events and the info required to run them.

This way if a mod wants to run something but doesn’t have the time to prepare say a quiz for example they can just use the database we will create and simply copy it from there.

We will be working over the next couple of weeks on pulling all the events into a central database to run.

The type of things we are talking about are

CPU Challenges/Missions
Quiz’s
Treasure Hunts
Comps
Special Seasonal Events

All of these types of things are part of FML already and some people might not be interested in them but if they are then they can be a great addition to the game and can often create a buzz about the gameworld.

One of the attractions of FML for me is the fact that it brings football fans together and there is nothing better than seeing a great discussion kick off about an incident that has taken place during a recent match.

You need better players Daddy!!!

This morning I was sat nursing a hangover I decided to log into FML.

Having downloaded the new update. (My thoughts to follow on this next week)

My 5 year old daughter came over and started cheering on Cider Stars we took a nice first half lead. So I decided to let her choose the half time team talk. She choose Pleased with their performance.

We won 2-0 and she was delighted, Daddy can we play another one.

So I selected the next match on my AI list and let her pick the half time team talks.

The match finished 0-0

"Daddy, you need better players, Can we play as England next?"

Out of the mouths of babes, all that goes into building a team and I feel my 5 year has FML sussed.

Its all about the players, whilst it sounds obvious it appears something that is the theme of FML its all about the trading.

So to conclude I need to invest in players and FML needs to introduce International management.

And finally, She didnt want to play after we drew, It seems she is a save and reload FM player in the making!!!

Trialist World Cup

Sunday Night

Chris Wright had decided to run a World Cup event made up of trialists.

The Mods in the Gameworld made sure this was given lots of promotion in the build up and the event was a great success.

Teams were drawn a country, at random by Chris and Marc.

The idea got the gameworld buzzing.

The mod team decided they would cover any wages incurred upto £20,000 anything above this and it would be upto the manager to cover the addtional costs.

There was a small cash prize.

After each team was given a country, we had about 45mins to select our team and join the comp.

This was one of the most successful community events we have held in Nunez and I was very pleased for Chris who had put alot of work into the event.

Personally I was drawn Turkey!!!

I had an OK team and won both of my qualifiers, making it through to the knockout stages where I was beaten by fellow mod and event organiser Chris Wright.

The ultimate winner was Matt Pilgrim who won the World Cup whilst in charge of NORWAY!!!

A great event and one of many more to make its apperence in Nunez over the forthcoming weeks.

Mid Season Blues

Im out of all the cups and Im looking like I might just beat the drop!!!

Im out all the cups and with no managers left who are actually on at the same time as me to play Im offically having a mid season slump.

Team is grafting away finacially we are looking better only 1.4mil in debt now.

This brings me to the question if I didnt love FML, Why would I log in tonight?

Simple I wouldn't. A lot has been made in the past about the lack of things to do in FML.

Well as a Mod that is never the case however I do wonder what keeps people coming back time and time again.

We run these QPs each night but does anyone really care who wins ?

What is the answer, GWs have quiz's, Newspapers and all the rest of the extras in my opionon this is what makes FML so great the interaction.

Its the key to the game, from my aspect its what draws me to FML above all else.

I had a discussion with a mod from another GW recently apart scheduling community events so people know what is going on in their GW on certain days etc.

Would this help ? Would we see people logging in just to take part in a certain event.

I feel it would, I would love your thoughts?

Transfer Record SMASHED!!!

Firstly this week we have seen FML Legend Sergio Aguero go for just shy of £6,000,000

To those of you in other gameworlds will think thats not alot but this is Nunez inflation is low here and due to stricter prize money in our Gameworld has been kept under control.

A new Record. A terrfic signing for Dan Pope.

Then on Friday I awake to an email from fellow Mod Martin Pearson advising that Pato has been sold as well. Smashing the Transfer Record Again!!!

This time its a Massive, Huge Jaw dropping amount of £7,500,000

We have only just started season 4 and this money is huge.

However there are not many people who could afford to splash this much cash.

Would I pay 7.5mil for Pato ?

Would I eckers like, but then again that probably explains why I dont win anything!

Bob the Builder visits The Strongbow Arena

Firstly, I think the reward for stadium building just doesn't seem worth it in my opinion. That said I dont care I want to crack on with building a stadium.

So Ive already got a stand behind one of the goals which is a 1 tier Aizendale packed with seats. I built a 2 tier Ospitalita behind the other goal last season.

Its now time to get the fans in.

So Ive piled my money into packing it out.

Ive started work on adding 7,000 seats behind the goal, this is it this will the stand where all the Strongbow signing crew will be placed.

With costs spiralling out of control and the ROI set at something over 133 Ive done this purely out of my desire to see fans at my ground and not through any strategy about how best to improve my team and bring max income into the club.

With me facing possible relegation this season It could be a stupid move and however who cares, in for a penny in for a pound.

Im already 2mil in debt whats another mil on seats!!!

Dumped out the Cups

I do love a good cup run.

I'm never good enough to actually win a league in FML and my goal each yeah is to just try and have a good cup run and let the league take care of itself.

The Last couple have days has seen me dumped out of the following Major Cup Comps.

Gameworld Cup 2nd Round
Gold Cup 2nd Round
VFA Upper Cup 1st Round

Not what I was looking for at all, I can have no complaints in any of these matches as I did not deserve the win and was outclassed outgunned and outplayed!!!

This only leaves in the VFA Cup.

I have just managed to squeeze through to the last 16 in this.

I have a slight challenge in front of me now though.

Ive been drawn Caboor, VFA Cup winners last season. Current Gameworld Champion and the No1 ranked team in the Gameworld.

I can not see me getting anything out of that fixture, but you just never know I guess.

Wish me luck
